Cramlington.live·

Cramlington does not have a dedicated yoga studio, but there are more places to roll out a mat than you might expect. The town's three big gyms all put yoga or Pilates on their class timetables, and a local teacher runs gentle community classes in the old village. The right choice depends on whether you want a class as part of a gym membership or a pay-as-you-go session in a quieter setting.

Timetables change from term to term, so treat the class names below as a guide to what each place offers and check the current timetable before you go.

Reynolds Yoga at Cramlington Community Centre

If you want yoga in a calm, community setting rather than a gym studio, Reynolds Yoga is the place to start. Its classes are described as gentle and anatomy-informed, combining gentle movement, mindful breathing and anatomy-informed teaching, which makes them a good fit for beginners and anyone returning to exercise.

In-person classes are held at Cramlington Community Centre on East Farm Terrace (NE23 1DT), in the old village, which is run by the Cramlington Village Community Association charity. At the time of writing the timetable lists:

  • Wednesday Wake-Up, 7am to 8am, at the community centre
  • Sunday Sessions, 6pm to 7pm, at the community centre
  • Monday Unwind, 6.30pm to 7.30pm, online

There are also occasional special sessions, such as a winter solstice class in December. Classes are booked and paid for through the Reynolds Yoga website, which is also the place to check current prices, as they are not the same on every page of the site.

Best for: The gentlest option in town, and the only one that does not need a gym membership.

Concordia Leisure Centre

Concordia Leisure Centre on Forum Way has the widest spread of mind and body classes in Cramlington. Its online timetable, run by Places Leisure, includes sessions called Yoga, Yoga Meditation And Relax, Pilates and Bodybalance, with virtual Bodybalance classes on the studio screen at other times.

Classes are included in the Premium membership, which covers the gym, pool and classes, and the centre also has a thermal spa with a spa pool, sauna and steam room if you want to unwind afterwards. Book through the Places Leisure app or website, or call the centre on 01670 620200. Our gyms guide has more on memberships.

Best for: The most yoga and Pilates classes under one roof, with a spa next door.

Vision Health and Fitness

Vision Health and Fitness on Crowhall Road is best known for strength training, but its Cramlington timetable includes three slower-paced classes:

  • Vinyasa Flow Yoga, which Vision describes as a class to "sooth your soul and focus your energy"
  • Pilates, described as body conditioning focused on lengthening and strengthening muscles, suitable for all fitness levels
  • Pilachi Fit, which mixes Pilates, yoga, tai chi and strength and functional fitness work

Classes are included in the membership, and Vision offers a free pass through its website, so you can try a class before you sign up.

PureGym Cramlington

PureGym Cramlington by Manor Walks does not list a yoga class on its timetable at the time of writing, but it does run Pilates and a mind-body class called MIND, alongside its high-energy classes. Members book through the PureGym app. Because the gym is open 24 hours a day with no contract, it suits people who want the odd Pilates class around gym sessions at unusual hours.

Tips for starting yoga in Cramlington

  • New to yoga? A gentle community class or a Pilates session is an easier start than a fast-paced flow class. Tell the teacher about any injuries before the class begins.
  • What to bring: gyms usually have mats, but bring your own if you prefer, along with water and a layer for the relaxation at the end.
  • Book ahead: gym classes fill up, especially early mornings and evenings, so book through the app as soon as the slot opens.
  • Pay as you go or membership: Reynolds Yoga is paid per class. At Concordia, Vision and PureGym the classes come with a membership.
  • Getting there: Concordia and PureGym are a short walk from the bus station. See our guide to getting around Cramlington without a car.
