Best Massage in Cramlington
Where to book a massage in Cramlington: sports and remedial massage at Muscletone in Quarryside House and Resilient Sports Massage on Bassington Lane, relaxing hot stone and bamboo treatments at LMR Hair & Spa, and the thermal spa at Concordia.
Whether you are sore after a long run, stiff from a week at a desk or just want an hour to switch off, Cramlington has a handful of good places to book a massage. They fall into two groups: sports and remedial therapists who focus on how your muscles are working, and salon spa treatments designed mainly for relaxation.
Prices and treatment lists below come from each provider's own website at the time of writing. Check before you book, and tell your therapist about any injuries, medical conditions or pregnancy before your treatment starts.
Muscletone Massage Therapy
Muscletone Massage Therapy works from Quarryside House in Cramlington (NE23 1BA), with a second base at Ashington Leisure Centre. The therapist holds a VTCT Level 4 sports massage qualification, which Muscletone says goes beyond relaxation technique into assessment, sports injury and rehabilitation.
The treatment list is the longest in town. At the time of writing it includes:
- Swedish massage, £45 for an hour or £65 for 90 minutes
- Deep tissue massage, £50 for an hour or £75 for 90 minutes
- Hot stone massage, £55 for an hour, with Swedish and deep tissue hot stone versions too
- Myofascial cupping, £55 for an hour
- Indian head massage, £45 for 45 minutes
- Manual lymphatic drainage, £60 for an hour
- Maintenance massage, £35 for 45 minutes
The Cramlington clinic is open from 9am to 5pm, Monday to Friday. You can book online or call 01670 719790, and gift vouchers are available.
Best for: The widest choice of treatments, from deep tissue to lymphatic drainage.
Resilient Sports Massage
Resilient Sports Massage is in Suite 6, Hubbway House on Bassington Lane (NE23 8AD). It is run by Wayne, a qualified Level 3 sports massage therapist, and treatments are tailored to each client.
Sports massage is the focus, but it is not only for athletes: the clinic also works on the back, neck and shoulders, where desk-bound tension often builds up. Resilient says sports massage can help reduce muscular tension, improve mobility and support recovery, while being clear that no treatment can guarantee injury prevention. There is free parking, and appointments are booked online or by calling 07886 860948. Prices are not listed on the website.
Best for: A dedicated sports massage clinic with easy parking on Bassington Lane.
LMR Hair & Spa
For a massage that is more about relaxing than recovery, LMR Hair & Spa at 4 West Farm Court (NE23 1AX) combines a hair salon with a spa menu. Its price list at the time of writing includes:
- Back massage (30 minutes), £25
- Full body massage (60 minutes), £40
- Hot stone, £30 for the back or £45 full body
- Warm bamboo, £30 for the back or £45 full body
- Thai compress, £35 for the back or £50 full body
The salon is open Tuesday to Saturday, until 7pm on Tuesdays and Thursdays, and closed on Sundays and Mondays. Book by calling 01670 736886 or through its Facebook Messenger link.
Best for: The most affordable full body massage on our list, in a friendly salon setting.
Concordia Leisure Centre thermal spa
Concordia Leisure Centre on Forum Way does not list massage treatments, but its thermal spa is a good place to unwind after a workout. Places Leisure describes a "beautifully tranquil thermal spa" with a spa pool, sauna and steam room, and a spa membership gives unlimited access. It is worth pairing with a massage elsewhere, or with a swim in the main pool. Call 01670 620200 for current spa prices and times.
Tips for booking a massage
- Sports or relaxation? If you have a niggle from training or tight muscles from work, a sports or deep tissue massage from a qualified therapist is the better choice. For pure relaxation, a salon spa treatment may suit you better.
- Ask about qualifications. Both sports massage clinics above state their therapist's qualification level on their websites. It is always fine to ask.
- Health conditions. Tell your therapist about any medical conditions, recent injuries or pregnancy. If you have a new or worsening injury, see a physiotherapist or GP first. Our physiotherapists guide lists local clinics.
- Vouchers. Muscletone sells massage vouchers, which make a good gift.
If you are training for an event, our running and cycling guide, gyms guide and personal trainers guide cover the rest of your routine.
