Physiotherapists in Cramlington: NHS Self-Referral and Private Clinics Nearby
How to see a physiotherapist from Cramlington, including self-referral to the NHS JMAPS service with a clinic in the town, and private physio clinics in Bedlington and Morpeth.
If you have back pain, a sore knee or a sports injury, there are two main ways to see a physiotherapist from Cramlington. You can use the NHS, which in Northumberland lets adults refer themselves, or you can pay to see a private physio.
This guide covers both. Details were checked in November 2026 and come from each provider's own website. It is general information, not medical advice.
Best for:
For a sudden, severe injury, chest pain or anything that could be serious, do not wait for physio. Call 999 in an emergency, or use NHS 111 if you are not sure where to go. Our guide to Northumbria Specialist Emergency Care Hospital explains when to use A&E.
NHS physiotherapy: JMAPS
On the NHS, musculoskeletal physiotherapy in Northumberland is provided by JMAPS, the Northumberland Joint Musculoskeletal and Pain Service. It is a partnership between Northumbria Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust and Cora Health, and treats problems such as back, neck and joint pain and persistent pain.
You do not need to see your GP first:
- By phone: if you are 16 or over, call 03301 244 652.
- Online: adults over 18 can self-refer through the online form linked from the JMAPS page on the Northumbria Healthcare website.
Usually a chartered physiotherapist will first assess you over the phone. If you need to be seen in person, JMAPS clinic locations include Cramlington (Northumbria Way), Blyth Community Hospital and Wansbeck. If you need a specialist assessment, your GP may need to refer you.

Choosing a physiotherapist
- Check registration. "Physiotherapist" is a protected title in the UK, so anyone using it must be registered with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC). You can search the register on the HCPC website.
- Look for relevant experience. If you have a specific problem, such as a sports injury, pelvic health or recovery after a stroke, ask whether the clinic has a physio with experience in that area.
- Ask about costs up front, including the first assessment and follow-up sessions.
- If you have health insurance, check with your insurer before booking. Many policies need a GP referral or pre-authorisation and only cover certain clinics.
- Think about access. If you struggle to travel, a home visit or a telephone or video appointment may be an option.
