Swimming in Cramlington
Where to swim in Cramlington: the big family pool at Concordia Leisure Centre, lessons for children and adults, a small warm-water swim school, and the nearest pools in Blyth, Seaton Delaval and Morpeth.
Cramlington has one large public pool and one small specialist swim school, and between them they cover most needs: lane swimming, family splash sessions, lessons from babies to adults, and aqua fitness. If you want a quieter pool or a different timetable, three more public pools are a short drive away. This guide covers what each one offers. Session times change often, so we point you to the operators' own timetables rather than listing them here.
Concordia Leisure Centre
Concordia Leisure Centre on Forum Way, next to Manor Walks, is the town's public pool. It is run by Places Leisure in partnership with Northumberland County Council, having previously been operated by Active Northumberland, so you may still see the old name on signs and in older reviews.
The main pool is a large, free-form pool with a tropical theme rather than a plain rectangular tank. It is 25 metres long, with lane markings on the floor, and a family review measured it at around 19 metres wide with a maximum depth of 1.4 metres, so diving is not allowed. There is a shallow area for babies and toddlers, with splash toys and water buckets around the edge, and the centre also lists a splash pad among its facilities. The pool reopened in 2019 after its lining and poolside floors were replaced.
Sessions on the timetable include lane swimming for fitness, family "fun" swims and Aqua Fit classes. Family sessions have needed booking in advance, and children under eight must be supervised in the water by someone aged 16 or over. Bring a £1 coin for the lockers. Check the Places Leisure Concordia page or call 01670 620200 for current times and prices.
The centre also has a thermal spa with a spa pool, sauna and steam room, which is included in Places Leisure's spa membership.
Best for: Best for: lane swimming, family swims and lessons, all under one roof in the town centre.
Swimming lessons at Concordia
Concordia runs a year-round learn-to-swim programme that follows the Swim England Learn to Swim Framework. It covers pre-school lessons for babies and toddlers up to age five, school-age lessons, and aquatic skills courses in areas such as competitive swimming, rookie lifesaving, synchronised swimming and water polo. Children on the lesson programme can also swim in selected public sessions at no extra cost.
Adults are catered for too, from people who are nervous in the water to swimmers who want to sort out their technique. Private one-to-one or one-to-two lessons are available, and intensive courses run in some school holidays. Lessons are booked online through Places Leisure.
Best for: Best for: a structured, badge-based programme that can take a child from first splashes to club-level skills.
Little Swimming Co
Little Swimming Co is an independent swim school based at Hubbway Business Centre on the Bassington Industrial Estate. The company was set up in 2015 and teaches in its own small pool, which is 1.2 metres deep, so parents can stand during baby classes, and kept warm at around 31 to 32 degrees. The pool uses ultraviolet filtration to reduce the chemicals needed in the water.
The school offers one-to-one lessons, baby and toddler classes, pre-school lessons and crash courses arranged on request. It has a dedicated SEND programme with one-to-one lessons for children with special educational needs, including autistic children, which can be hard to find in a busy public pool. Its sister brand, Mini Swimming Company, runs classes for the youngest swimmers in the same pool. Places are managed through a registration and waiting list on the Little Swimming Co website.
Best for: Best for: babies, nervous beginners and children who need one-to-one or SEND support in a quiet, warm pool.
