Business Support in Cramlington

Where Cramlington businesses can get help in 2026: the Northumberland Small Business Service, the North East Growth Hub, Advance Northumberland and Invest Northumberland, BIPC North East, and the town's business parks.

Cramlington.live·

Cramlington was planned as a place of work as well as a place to live, and its industrial estates and business parks are home to everyone from global pharmaceutical manufacturers to one-person start-ups. Whether you are thinking about starting a business, growing one or moving one to the town, there is publicly funded help available.

The names of some organisations have changed recently. This guide sets out who does what in 2026, and we checked each one in November 2026. Funding schemes open and close often, so always check the organisation's own website for what is currently available.

Northumberland Small Business Service

For most Cramlington businesses, the first port of call is the Northumberland Small Business Service (NSBS). GOV.UK describes it as delivered by Advance Northumberland on behalf of Northumberland County Council, and fully funded, so eligible businesses do not pay for its support.

It covers:

  • Enterprise and start-up support for people thinking about working for themselves or in the early stages of trading.
  • Growth support for established small businesses that want to expand, take on staff or reach new markets.
  • Events and workshops on practical topics.
  • Rural support, including a Grant Investment Fund and a Farming Advisory Service for rural businesses and farms.

The NSBS website also promotes the North East Rural Growth Programme, funded by the North East Mayoral Strategic Authority. Eligibility depends on your location and type of business, so check whether you qualify before you apply.

North East Growth Hub

The North East Growth Hub is the regional directory of business support, run by the North East Mayoral Strategic Authority. That body was known as the North East Combined Authority until it was renamed in May 2026, so you may still see the old name on older documents. Its Mayor is Kim McGuinness.

The Growth Hub website brings together support from many providers in one place, and includes a Finance and Funding Toolkit to help you find loans, grants and investment that match your business. If you are not sure where to start, call the Growth Hub team on 0191 561 5468 and they can point you to the right service.

Advance Northumberland and Invest Northumberland

Advance Northumberland describes itself as a regeneration and development business working in support of Northumberland County Council. As well as delivering the NSBS, it has a portfolio of business accommodation to rent or buy across the county, including industrial units, offices, business parks and managed workspace. Contact its commercial team on 01670 528460 to ask what is available.

Invest Northumberland is the county's inward investment website, aimed at businesses thinking of investing in or relocating to Northumberland. It sets out the case for the county and is the place to start if you are bringing a larger business to the area.

BIPC North East

The Business and IP Centre (BIPC) North East is based at Newcastle City Library, a short train ride from Cramlington. It helps entrepreneurs and small businesses understand intellectual property, such as protecting a brand name or an invention, and runs workshops, networking and specialist events for new and established businesses. It is particularly useful if you have a new product or a brand you want to protect.

Business locations in Cramlington

If you need premises, Cramlington has a wide choice of business locations:

  • Northumberland Business Park, about a mile south of the town centre next to the A19, has modern offices and units.
  • Apex Business Village at Annitsford, on the southern edge of town, has smaller offices, including several professional firms.
  • Nelson Industrial Estate and the neighbouring estates to the north-west of town are home to manufacturing, engineering and logistics firms.
  • Bassington Industrial Estate, including the Hubbway Business Centre, offers smaller units and workspace.

Commercial agents and Advance Northumberland are the best sources for what is currently available.

Funding schemes and eligibility rules change frequently. Before you apply for a grant or loan, check the provider's own website for current details, and be wary of anyone charging a fee to help you apply for publicly funded support.

Getting your paperwork in order

Most start-ups will need to register with HMRC, either as self-employed or by setting up a limited company through Companies House. A local accountant can help you decide which structure suits you, and a solicitor can help with contracts and leases.
