Three accountancy practices in Cramlington for small businesses, the self-employed and personal tax: Complete Accounting North East, Tennick Accountants and AWS Accountancy.

Cramlington.live·

Cramlington has a lot of small businesses, from trades and hair salons to firms on the industrial estates, and most of them need an accountant at some point. So do many people who are self-employed, rent out a property or have to file a Self Assessment tax return.

Below are three accountancy practices with offices in the town. One is on the Nelson Industrial Estate, one is at Apex Business Village in Annitsford, and one is on the Northumberland Business Park. We checked each firm's website in November 2026, and all three were taking on clients. This guide does not give tax or financial advice. Speak to an accountant about your own situation.

Complete Accounting North East

Complete Accounting North East is based at Enterprise Court on Crosland Park, part of the Nelson Industrial Estate. Its website shows the ICAEW logo, and the firm appears in the ICAEW's directory of chartered accountancy firms.

It works mainly with businesses. Services include help setting up a new business, tax returns and tax planning, payroll and a "virtual finance director" service for firms that need senior financial input without hiring someone full time. Call 01670 730196.

Best for: small and growing businesses that want a chartered firm on the doorstep.

Tennick Accountants

Tennick Accountants is at Apex Business Village in Annitsford, on the southern edge of Cramlington. The firm says on its website that it is a member of the ACCA, and its founder, Graeme Tennick, is a Fellow of the ACCA.

Rather than pricing each job separately, Tennick sells its service as packages aimed at different stages of a business, from starting up and settling in to growth and planning an exit. It also covers tax, bookkeeping and payroll. Call 0191 580 0402.

Best for: owner-managed businesses that want regular advice as well as year-end accounts.

AWS Accountancy

AWS Accountancy is at Berrymoor Court on the Northumberland Business Park, close to the A19. Its website says the practice is going into its 28th year, and the limited company is listed as active at Companies House.

It offers accounts, bookkeeping, payroll, tax returns and help for people starting a business. Its website does not say which professional body it belongs to, so ask when you call. Call 0191 250 2110.

Best for: sole traders and small firms that want a long-established local practice.

How to choose an accountant in Cramlington

  • Check the qualifications. Anyone can call themselves an accountant. Look for membership of a professional body such as the ICAEW, ACCA, ICAS, CIMA or AAT, then check the firm or member on that body's online directory. Members offering services to the public are bound by their body's rules, and you can complain to the body if something goes wrong.
  • Ask what is included. A fixed monthly fee may or may not include Self Assessment returns, payroll, VAT returns or bookkeeping. Get a written engagement letter that sets out the work and the price.
  • Ask about Making Tax Digital. HMRC is moving sole traders and landlords on to Making Tax Digital for Income Tax in stages from April 2026, starting with those on higher incomes. Ask the firm which software it uses and whether it will handle the quarterly updates.
  • Think about the future. If you plan to take on staff, register for VAT or incorporate, choose a firm that can grow with you.
  • Check HMRC deadlines yourself. The deadline for online Self Assessment returns and payment is 31 January after the end of the tax year. Your accountant will need your records well before then.
