About John the Clerk of Cramlington

John the Clerk of Cramlington opened as a Wetherspoon in July 2013, in a conversion of the former Travellers Rest on Low Main Place. It is named after John the Clerk, the earliest recorded chaplain of Cramlington (around 1163 to 1180), whose chapel stood near the site of today's parish church.

The open-plan pub has one long bar, with cask ales including Ruddles Best, Greene King Abbot and Sharp's Doom Bar plus changing guests. It opens at 8am every day, has a licensed outside area and step-free access, and admits under-18s until 9pm.
