Most schools in Cramlington follow the term dates set by Northumberland County Council, but not all of them do, and every school sets some of its own teacher training days. This guide brings together the council's dates for the rest of the 2026/27 school year and for 2027/28, plus the dates for Cramlington Learning Village, which differ in a few places.

We checked the dates against the council's and Cramlington Learning Village's websites in November 2026. Always confirm with your child's school before booking a holiday, especially around teacher training days.

Who sets the term dates?

Northumberland County Council sets the term and holiday dates for community and voluntary controlled schools. Academies, foundation and trust schools, and voluntary aided (faith) schools can set their own dates, and the council notes that some schools have done so. In practice many of them follow the council's pattern closely, but the first and last days of a holiday can differ.

On top of the holidays, every school has a small number of teacher training days (also called INSET or non-teaching days) when pupils stay at home. Each school chooses its own, so they are different from school to school even when the holidays match. The council publishes a list of each school's teacher training days for the year on its school term dates page.

Monday 3 January 2028 is a bank holiday, which is why schools go back on the Tuesday. The 2027/28 calendar shows 192 school days. The council explains that two of these are non-teaching days, and schools must choose three more non-teaching days of their own, so pupils will have 190 days in school.

Best for:

The council notes that schools which are academies, foundation or trust schools, or voluntary aided cannot be required to follow these dates, and that teacher training days can change at the school's discretion. Your child's school website or newsletter is the final word.
