Football in Cramlington
Where to play and watch football in Cramlington: Cramlington United and Cramlington Juniors, girls' and women's teams, disability football, pitches and halls to hire for five-a-side, and the nearest grounds for non-league and Premier League football.
Football is the biggest participation sport in Cramlington. Hundreds of children turn out for junior sides every weekend, and the town's biggest club runs more than 60 teams. This guide covers the clubs to join, where girls and women can play, where to hire a pitch for a kickabout, and where to watch a match nearby.
Club details come from each club's own website, league websites and the Football Association at the time of writing. Training nights and age groups change every season, so contact the club before you go along.
Cramlington United FC
Cramlington United is the town's largest club. It was formed around 2010 and now runs more than 60 teams, from four-year-olds to adults.
Men's football. The men's first team plays in the Northern Football Alliance Premier Division. Home games are at Northburn Sports and Community Centre on Crowhall Lane (NE23 3YP). The Northern Alliance is the step below the Northern League, and watching a game at this level is an easy way to see local football up close.
Junior football. The club's junior teams play in the Northumberland Football League and the Russell Foster Youth League. Younger children start with Crammy's Cubs, for boys and girls aged four to seven.
Disability football. The club runs Comets sessions for disabled children aged five to eleven, an England Football disability recreational session for twelve to sixteen year olds, and teams in the Ability Counts leagues.
Other venues. Teams also train and play at Cramlington Sporting Club, which is at Cramlington Learning Village, and at Eastfield Playing Fields and Alexandra Park.
Best for: The club to try first: if it does not have a team for your age, it can probably point you to one that does.
Cramlington Juniors FC
Cramlington Juniors has been running junior football in the town since 1973 and is a registered charity. Its home is Ann Welfare on High Pit Road (NE23 6QL), where the clubhouse runs a cafe on match days. The club has teams from under-7 to under-17, plus a development centre for under-5s and under-6s, and it posts trial dates for new players on its website before each season.
Its best-known old boy is Alan Shearer, whom the club names among the players who came through its teams.
Cramlington Town FC
Cramlington Town is a community club based at the sports pavilion on Farm Road in East Hartford. Its junior teams have played in Northumberland FA county cups in recent seasons. The club does not have a working website at the time of writing, so ask through the Northumberland Football League for current teams.
Girls' and women's football
Both Cramlington United and Cramlington Town have women's teams. Cramlington United Ladies and Cramlington Town Ladies are both on the FA's list of clubs accepted into the 2026-27 Women's FA Cup, and both have played in the Northumberland Football League's women's divisions.
For younger girls, Cramlington United runs a girls' pathway from under-sevens upwards, and it hosts England Football's Wildcats sessions for girls aged five to eleven at Cramlington Sporting Club on Friday evenings. Wildcats is booked in blocks through the England Football website, and at the time of writing no new block was open for booking, so check there for the next one. The club also has a recreational women's team, the Wildercats, for adults who want to play without the pressure of league football.
Best for: Wildcats is the gentlest introduction for a girl who has never played: no experience needed.
Walking football and casual games
We could not confirm a current walking football session in Cramlington. A session at Northburn has been advertised in the past, but it does not appear on the club's own website. The nearest walking football we could confirm is the Newcastle United Foundation's session at Hirst Welfare Centre in Ashington. Check the Foundation's website for current times.
For adults who just want a game, Cramlington United runs Just Play, a casual kickabout for over-16s, on Friday evenings at Cramlington Sporting Club.
