Northumbria Specialist Emergency Care Hospital

Northumbria Healthcare's specialist emergency care hospital in Cramlington, with a 24/7 consultant-led emergency department for serious emergencies.

About Northumbria Specialist Emergency Care Hospital

The Northumbria Specialist Emergency Care Hospital opened in June 2015 as England's first purpose-built specialist emergency care hospital. Run by Northumbria Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust, it has emergency consultants on site 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and treats serious emergencies such as suspected stroke, loss of consciousness, severe chest pain and severe blood loss.

Alongside the emergency department it has a critical care unit, emergency admission wards, a short-stay paediatric unit and a birthing centre led by consultants and midwives. For problems that are urgent but not serious, the trust advises that you may be seen more quickly at an urgent treatment centre, and NHS 111 can advise where to go.
