Butchers Near Cramlington

For a town of its size, Cramlington is short of independent butchers. When we checked in November 2026 we could not find a butcher's shop trading in the town itself, so most people buy their meat from the supermarket counters or drive a few miles out. The good news is that there are three proper butchers within a short drive, each with a different strength.

We checked each shop's own website and its Food Standards Agency hygiene record in November 2026. Opening hours change around Christmas, so check before you make a special trip.

The Blagdon Farm Shop

The Blagdon Farm Shop is at the Milkhope Centre on Berwick Hill Road (NE13 6DA), just off the A1 near Seaton Burn and about ten minutes' drive south-west of Cramlington. It is not connected to the Blagdon Arms pub in the old village, despite the name.

It is a member of the Q Guild of butchers, and its meat comes from the Blagdon Estate and other high-welfare Northumberland farms. It is one of a handful of butchers in the region that still break down whole carcases and hang meat on the bone. Alongside the counter there are pies from its own bakehouse, local cheeses in the deli and a range of kitchen-ready meals.

At the time of writing the shop is open from 10am to 4pm Tuesday to Thursday, 10am to 5pm on Friday and Saturday, and 11am to 4pm on Sunday. It is closed on Mondays. Christmas and New Year orders are taken through its website, and you can call 01670 789924.

Best for: The pick for locally reared meat and a proper farm shop browse.

The Fat Butcher

The Fat Butcher has its shop on Front Street in Bebside (NE24 4HW), between Cramlington and Blyth. It is a traditional counter with beef, pork, lamb, chicken, sausages, bacon and burgers, and it is the only one of the three that opens seven days a week: 9am to 6pm Monday to Saturday and 10am to 4pm on Sunday.

The business also runs an online delivery service packed at its base on Double Row in Seaton Delaval, with meat boxes and Christmas hampers. That is handy if you would rather not drive out at all. Call the shop on 01670 530885.

Best for: The easiest option for a Sunday shop or a delivered meat box.

Prested Butchers, Dudley

Prested Butchers is a small traditional butcher's shop at 22 Market Street in Dudley (NE23 7HR), the village just south of Cramlington. It was given a five-star food hygiene rating at its latest inspection in April 2026.

It has no website or social media page that we could find, so the best way to see what is on the counter, or to ask about Christmas orders, is to call in. Market Street also has a few other small shops, including a dog groomer covered in our dog groomers guide.

Best for: The closest independent butcher to Cramlington town centre.

Tips for buying from a butcher

• Order early for Christmas: turkeys, beef joints and hampers sell out. Ask about Christmas ordering when you next call in.
• Ask for what you need: a butcher can cut chops to your preferred thickness, bone and roll a joint, or mince a particular cut.
• Check the hours: two of the three close earlier than a supermarket, and the Blagdon Farm Shop is closed on Mondays.
• Bring a cool bag: all three are a drive away, so a cool bag keeps meat chilled on the way home.
