Baby and Toddler Groups in Cramlington

Library storytimes, Family Hub stay and play, baby music and development classes, and baby swimming: where to take babies and toddlers in Cramlington, with days and times at the time of writing.

Cramlington.live·

Cramlington has a good spread of things to do with a baby or toddler, from storytimes at the library and Family Hub play sessions run by the council to paid music, sensory and swimming classes. This guide covers the groups we could confirm from the organisers' own pages, with days, times and prices as they stood at the time of writing (November 2026).

Session times change often, and most groups follow school terms, so please check with the organiser before you go. Several of the classes below must be booked in advance and do not take drop-ins.

Storytime at Cramlington Library

Cramlington Library, in the Hub at Cramlington on Forum Way, runs regular children's sessions. Northumberland Libraries lists its Bookworms sessions on Wednesdays at 10.30am and Thursdays at 1.30pm during term time, and asks families to book in branch or online.

The library's Eventbrite listings for these slots, called Storytime Fun, describe them as suitable for ages two to five with their grown-ups, with stories and a simple craft, and say they are free. There is also a LEGO Club on Saturdays at 10.30am for older children.

Best for: Free, friendly and indoors: a good first outing, but book a place first.

Northumberland Family Hubs

Northumberland County Council's Family Hubs (formerly Sure Start Children's Centres) cover Cramlington through their South East locality team, based in Blyth. Their sessions include weekly drop-in Stay and Play for under-fives, CALM Stay and Play for children with additional needs or disabilities, and short courses such as Brilliant Babies (0 to 12 months) and Terrific Toddlers (one to two years).

The Family Hubs say their activities are free, but you need to register as a member first. Recent Cramlington timetables have listed sessions at the Cramlington Community Hub at Manor Walks and at the Hop-in building at Hareside Primary School, along with baby weigh-in clinics. The timetable is published month by month, so call the South East team on 01670 798 800 or follow the Blyth Family Hubs Facebook page for the current one.

Best for: The best value in town for under-fives, and a good way to meet other local parents.

Music and baby development classes

Little Music Stars runs Monday classes at Beaconhill Community Centre on Langdale Drive. Little Music Stars, for confident walkers from 15 months to four years, is at 10am, and Baby Moonbeams, for babies from three months until they are walking, is at 11am. Each class lasts about 40 minutes, with songs, scarves, puppets, bubbles and instruments. At the time of writing a single session is £9, with a cheaper per-class rate on a term ticket and a trial ticket for newcomers. Classes are term time only and must be booked in advance through Happity.

Bloom Baby Classes Northumberland holds Tuesday classes at East Hartford Community Centre on Scott Street. Bloom's Caterpillar Club is for babies from birth to six months, and Busy Bees is a musical class from six months to walking. The November to December 2026 term runs from 3 November to 8 December, with Busy Bees at 10am and 12 noon and Caterpillar Club at 11am and 1pm. A term of Busy Bees is listed at £49.50, and single pay-as-you-go sessions at £8.50 when spaces allow. Some classes fill up, so join the waiting list if yours is full.

Best for: Paid classes book up by the term, so look a few weeks before the next term starts.

Baby and toddler swimming

Little Swimming Co is an independent swim school on the Bassington Industrial Estate with its own small pool, kept at around 31 to 32 degrees and shallow enough for parents to stand in during baby classes. It offers baby and toddler classes and pre-school lessons, and its sister brand, Mini Swimming Company, teaches the youngest swimmers in the same pool. Places are managed through a registration and waiting list on its website.

Concordia Leisure Centre also runs pre-school swimming lessons for babies and toddlers up to age five as part of its learn-to-swim programme, and its pool has a shallow area for little ones during public sessions. See our swimming in Cramlington guide for more.

Best for: A warm, shallow pool makes a big difference with a young baby.

Tips for parents

  • Check before you go: days, times and prices change, especially between terms, and the details above are correct only at the time of writing.
  • Term time only: almost every group here takes a break in the school holidays, so plan other outings for half-term.
  • Booking: the library sessions, Little Music Stars and Bloom all ask you to book. Family Hub Stay and Play is drop-in, but you need to be registered.
  • Costs: library storytime and Family Hub sessions are free; music, sensory and swimming classes are paid, usually by the term, with some single or trial sessions.
  • Church and community groups: some local churches and community centres run their own parent and toddler mornings. Ask at the venue or check its Facebook page for current times.
