Politics in Cramlington: Who Represents You
A neutral guide to who represents Cramlington, from your MP and the North East Mayor to Northumberland County Council and Cramlington Town Council, with how to vote and how to get in touch.
Cramlington has four layers of elected representation: a Member of Parliament, a regional mayor, county councillors on Northumberland County Council and town councillors on Cramlington Town Council. Each has different responsibilities, and knowing which one to contact saves time. This guide sets out who does what. It is a factual guide and does not endorse any party or candidate.
Your Member of Parliament
Cramlington is in the Cramlington and Killingworth constituency, which was created for the July 2024 general election and also includes Killingworth in North Tyneside.
The MP is Emma Foody (Labour and Co-operative), who was elected on 4 July 2024. According to the UK Parliament website, she won with a majority of 12,820 on an electorate of 76,228.
Your MP represents the constituency in the House of Commons and can take up problems with national government departments and agencies, such as HMRC, the Home Office, the DWP, the Passport Office and the Child Maintenance Service. MPs do not run council services, so issues like bins and potholes go to your councillors instead.

Best for:
When you contact your MP or a councillor about a personal case, include your full address and postcode. They can only take up casework for people who live in the area they represent.
The North East Mayor
Cramlington is part of the North East Mayoral Strategic Authority, which covers seven councils: County Durham, Gateshead, Newcastle, North Tyneside, Northumberland, South Tyneside and Sunderland. It was set up as the North East Combined Authority in May 2024 and took its current name in May 2026.
The elected mayor is Kim McGuinness (Labour and Co-operative), elected in May 2024. The authority's main responsibilities are regional transport, including powers over how buses are run, adult education and skills funding, and housing and regeneration investment. The next mayoral election is due in May 2028. You can find out more and contact the authority at northeast-ca.gov.uk.
Northumberland County Council
Northumberland County Council is a unitary authority, which means it runs almost all local services for Cramlington, including:
- Bin collections and recycling
- Roads, pavements, streetlights and potholes
- Planning applications and building control
- Schools, school admissions and school transport
- Adult social care and children's services
- Council tax, benefits support and libraries
The council has 69 councillors, each elected for a division. The last full election was on 1 May 2025, and the next is due in 2029.
Cramlington is split into seven county divisions:
- Cramlington East and Double Row
- Cramlington Eastfield
- Cramlington North
- Cramlington North West
- Cramlington South East
- Cramlington South West
- Cramlington Village
We have not named the individual county councillors here because the line-up has changed since the 2025 election, through a by-election and a change of party affiliation. The council's councillor directory is the reliable, up-to-date source and lets you find yours by name or division. The council's general enquiry line is 0345 600 6400.

Cramlington Town Council
Cramlington Town Council is the most local tier. It has 14 councillors, two for each of seven wards (East, Eastfield, North, North West, South East, South West and Village), and its offices are at Bamburgh House in Manor Walks.
The town council looks after a smaller set of things than the county council, including allotments, playgrounds and dog parks, Coronation Park, litter bins and bus shelters, the war memorial and festive lighting, and community chest grants. It also responds to planning applications as a consultee. It does not decide planning applications itself; Northumberland County Council does.
As listed on the town council's website in November 2026, the councillors are:
| Ward | Councillors |
|---|---|
| East | Feona Bowey, Scott Lee |
| Eastfield | Alan Smith, Stephen Clark |
| North | Helen Morris, Wayne Daley |
| North West | Mark Morris, Barbara Gregan |
| South East | Paul Ezhilchelvan, Michael Ray |
| South West | Pat Heard, Neil Graham |
| Village | Mark Swinburn, Loraine De Simone |
Full council and committee meetings are held at the Town Council Offices and are open to the public. Public question time starts at 6pm, with the meeting itself at 6.30pm. Upcoming dates include full council on 5 November, the Community and Youth Committee on 19 November and the Services Committee on 10 December 2026. Agendas and minutes are on the town council website, or you can phone the office on 01670 707831.
