Care Homes in Cramlington: A Guide to Local Options and CQC Ratings

Care homes in and around Cramlington, with each home's provider, type of care and latest CQC rating, plus how to arrange a needs assessment and what to look for when you visit.

Cramlington.live·

Cramlington has a good choice of care homes for older people, from residential homes to homes with nursing and dementia care. This guide lists the homes in the town and at Annitsford on its southern edge, with the details the Care Quality Commission (CQC), the independent regulator of health and social care in England, publishes for each one.

The ratings below are taken from each home's CQC profile and were checked in November 2026. The type of care and number of beds come from the NHS service directory. This guide is information only and is not financial or legal advice.

Best for:

CQC ratings run from Outstanding through Good and Requires improvement to Inadequate. A rating is a snapshot from the date of the report, so always read the latest report in full on the CQC website and visit the home yourself.

Annitsford is in North Tyneside, not Northumberland, so if the council is involved in arranging or paying for care, check with your own council how a placement there would work.

Arranging and paying for care

The starting point for council help is a needs assessment from adult social care. If you live in Northumberland, including Cramlington, you can request one through Northumberland County Council's Onecall service on 01670 536400. If you live in North Tyneside, contact North Tyneside Council. If you only need advice, equipment or small adaptations at home, you may not need a full assessment.

If the council finds that you need care, it will also carry out a financial assessment to work out what you should pay. In England, people with capital above £23,250 usually pay the full cost of their care home themselves, and below that amount the council may contribute. The value of your home may be counted if you move into a care home permanently, though there are exceptions, for example if a partner still lives there.

If you need nursing care in a care home, the NHS may pay a contribution towards the nursing part of your fees, and people with the most complex health needs may qualify for NHS Continuing Healthcare. Your GP practice or the hospital discharge team, for example at Northumbria Specialist Emergency Care Hospital, can advise on assessments. Because funding rules are detailed, it is worth taking independent advice before committing to fees.

Tips for choosing a care home

  • Read the latest CQC report, not just the rating, and note when the home was last inspected and whether the rating belongs to the current provider.
  • Visit more than once, at different times of day, and ask to see a room and join residents for a meal or an activity.
  • Check the type of care. Make sure the home can meet current needs and likely future ones, such as nursing or dementia care, so a further move is less likely.
  • Ask about fees in writing, including what is included and how often fees rise.
  • Ask about visiting arrangements, activities and how the home keeps in touch with families.
  • Think about location. A home close to family and friends makes regular visits much easier.
