Best Vets in Cramlington

A guide to the vets in Cramlington, from Ayres Veterinary Centre on Station Road and the Village Veterinary Centre on Church Street to Vets4Pets at Westmorland Retail Park, plus where to go in an out-of-hours emergency.

Cramlington.live·

Cramlington has three first-opinion vet practices for everyday pet care, and it is also home to one of the North East's emergency animal hospitals, on Northumberland Business Park. Between them, the three practices cover cats, dogs, rabbits and other small pets. One has weekday evening hours, and two open on Saturdays.

This guide covers each practice in turn, then explains what to do when your vet is closed. Opening hours and services come from each practice's own website or the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons (RCVS) Find a Vet register. They can change, so please phone before you visit. If you are new to the area, our moving to Cramlington guide is a good place to start.

Ayres Veterinary Centre

Ayres Veterinary Centre is at 3 West Farm Court on Station Road (NE23 1AX). It has been a small animal practice since 1973 and is now part of CVS Group. The RCVS register lists it as accredited under the Practice Standards Scheme at Core Standards (Small Animal) level. It treats dogs, cats, small mammals, birds and exotic pets.

The practice website lists consultations, vaccinations, microchipping, parasite control, nurse consultations and six-month health checks, as well as nail clipping, anal sac expression and home visits. Its Healthy Pet Club spreads the cost of routine preventive care into regular payments.

When the practice is closed at night or at weekends, its website directs clients to Ayres Veterinary Hospital or Alnorthumbria Veterinary Group in Morpeth. Phone: 01670 713623.

Best for: An established practice that also sees birds and exotic pets.

Village Veterinary Centre

The Village Veterinary Centre is at 2 Church Street (NE23 6QQ). According to the RCVS register, it treats cats, dogs and small mammals, and it has a client car park.

The register lists its hours as 9am to 6pm on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday, 9am to 5pm on Thursday and 9am to 12 noon on Saturday. It is closed on Sunday. It also lists out-of-hours cover, so phone the practice to check the current emergency arrangements. Phone: 01670 731927.

Best for: A smaller practice with Saturday morning opening.

Vets4Pets Cramlington

Vets4Pets Cramlington is inside Pets at Home at Unit 7, Westmorland Retail Park (NE23 6UY). It has the longest hours in town: 9am to 8pm Monday to Friday and 9am to 6pm on Saturday. It holds RCVS Practice Standards Scheme accreditation and Dogs Trust Dog Friendly Clinic accreditation.

The practice has its own operating theatre, in-house laboratory, digital X-ray and ultrasound. There are separate wards for cats, dogs and rabbits or guinea pigs, plus an isolation unit. Its services include dentistry with dental X-ray, soft tissue and orthopaedic surgery (including cruciate surgery), nurse clinics, a weight clinic, laser treatment, acupuncture and home visits. The Complete Care Plan covers dogs, cats and rabbits.

For advice when the practice is closed, call 0333 332 4471. Phone: 01670 715 220.

Best for: Open until 8pm on weekdays, which is handy if you work during the day.

Out-of-hours emergencies

Cramlington's out-of-hours emergency vet is Moorview Referrals, on Northumberland Business Park West (NE23 7RH). The RCVS register lists it as open 24 hours a day, seven days a week, for emergencies, and accredits it as a Small Animal Emergency Service Clinic. It also holds an Outstanding award for emergency and critical care. Vets4Pets Cramlington names Moorview as its out-of-hours provider, and lists fees of £143 between 8am and 8pm and £170 between 8pm and 8am. Phone: 0191 338 8890.

Each practice has its own arrangements, so check which service your vet uses before you need it. Save the number in your phone.

Tips for choosing a vet in Cramlington

  • Register early: sign up with a practice before your pet is ill or injured, so their records are already on file when you need them.
  • Evening and weekend appointments: Vets4Pets is open until 8pm on weekdays and until 6pm on Saturday, and the Village Veterinary Centre opens on Saturday mornings.
  • Exotic pets: the RCVS register lists Ayres Veterinary Centre as treating birds and exotic pets, as well as cats, dogs and small mammals.
  • Health plans: Ayres runs the Healthy Pet Club and Vets4Pets has the Complete Care Plan. Both spread the cost of routine care, so ask what each one includes.
  • Emergencies: phone your own practice first. When it is closed, use its out-of-hours number or call Moorview Referrals on 0191 338 8890.
