Sunday Roast in Cramlington
Where to get a Sunday roast in Cramlington, from the daily carvery at Willow Farm and the Snowy Owl's Sunday menu to two family pubs serving food until 9pm.
Cramlington's Sunday roasts are mostly served by its big family pubs rather than village inns. This guide covers four of them: a carvery on Northumberland Business Park that serves a roast every day of the week, a country-style Vintage Inn on Blagdon Lane, and two neighbourhood pubs run by Sizzling Pubs. For the beer and character of the town's pubs, see our guide to the best pubs in Cramlington.
Menus change with the seasons and prices go up, so we haven't listed prices. Check the current menu and book ahead, especially in winter and on bank holiday weekends.
Willow Farm
Willow Farm on Willow Court, Northumberland Business Park, is a Farmhouse Inns pub, and the carvery is its main draw. It describes the carvery as "Sunday roast, everyday", with slow-roasted meats, Yorkshire puddings, roast potatoes and vegetables, served from 11.30am to 8pm seven days a week. You can book a table online.
It suits families: there is an indoor play area, kids' meals, a beer garden and a car park with EV charging, and cakes baked on site for afterwards. Reviews are mixed. Many praise the value and the portions, while some recent reviewers mention slow queues at the carving station and food that wasn't hot enough, so busy Sunday lunchtimes may not be the best time to go.
Best for: A roast any day of the week, served from 11.30am to 8pm.
The Snowy Owl
The Snowy Owl on Blagdon Lane, at the A1068 on the southern edge of Cramlington, is a Vintage Inn and the most food-led pub in town. Vintage Inns runs a separate Sunday menu across its pubs. Its sample Sunday menu lists roast sirloin of beef, slow-cooked pork belly with crackling, turkey breast with stuffing, and a Sunday Trio of all three, with a root vegetable Wellington for vegetarians. The roasts come with roast potatoes, a Yorkshire pudding, roast carrots and parsnips, greens and plenty of gravy. Check the pub's own menu, as dishes can vary between sites.
CAMRA notes that the food is good but service can be slow when the pub is busy, "which is most Sunday afternoons". Book ahead, and allow time. It is close to Northumberlandia, so a walk round the landform makes a good start to the day.
Best for: A full Sunday menu with starters and puddings, close to Northumberlandia.
The Bay Horse
The Bay Horse on Sanderson Terrace is a Sizzling Pub, part of Mitchells & Butlers. It serves food from noon to 9pm every day, including Sundays, according to CAMRA, and its pub listing includes a traditional Sunday roast alongside the chain's skillets and pub classics.
It is a straightforward, good-value family pub, with a garden, a car park and children welcome. No Sunday menu is published for this pub, so ring 01670 736869 to check what's on.
Best for: A good-value family roast, with food served until 9pm.
The Brockwell Seam
The Brockwell Seam on Northumbrian Road in the Northburn area is another Sizzling Pub, named after a coal seam once worked nearby. CAMRA lists food daily from noon to 9pm in its family-friendly lounge, and its pub listing includes a traditional Sunday roast.
It is a community local, with live sport on the screens, a garden and parking, so it suits a relaxed roast close to home if you live on the north side of town. As with the Bay Horse, call 01670 732071 to check the Sunday menu before you go.
Best for: A neighbourhood local for a Sunday roast in Northburn.
Tips for Sunday lunch
- Book ahead. The Snowy Owl and Willow Farm both get busy on Sunday afternoons, and Willow Farm takes bookings online.
- Not just Sundays. Willow Farm's carvery runs every day, so a weekday roast avoids the Sunday rush.
- Eating late. The Bay Horse and the Brockwell Seam both list food until 9pm, and Willow Farm's carvery runs until 8pm.
- Vegetarians. The Vintage Inns sample Sunday menu has a root vegetable Wellington. Ask the other pubs what they offer when you book.
- Children. Willow Farm has an indoor play area and kids' meals, and both Sizzling pubs welcome children.
