Best Fish and Chips in Cramlington

Where to get fish and chips in Cramlington, from the Brockwell Centre chippy and High Pit Fisheries to the long-running village shops in Annitsford and Seghill.

Cramlington.live·

Cramlington has fewer fish and chip shops than you might expect for a town of its size. The new town was built around neighbourhood centres rather than a long high street, so its chippies are spread out: one in the Brockwell Centre, one on High Pit Road, and two more in the former pit villages of Annitsford and Seghill, just outside the town. This guide covers all four. For restaurants, pubs and other places to eat, see our eat and drink hub.

Chip shop hours vary, and many close between lunch and teatime on weekdays. Online listings for these shops do not always agree, so please ring ahead before you set off, especially on Sundays and bank holidays.

Brockwell Fish and Chips

Brockwell Fish and Chips is in the Brockwell Centre on Northumbrian Road, the neighbourhood shopping parade that also has a pizza place, a Chinese takeaway and an Indian restaurant. Reviewers praise its generous portions of crisp battered fish and its friendly staff, with one calling it the best chippy in Cramlington.

Reviewers also mention its lunchtime specials and a fish and chip wrap, which make it a handy alternative to a meal deal. It holds the top food hygiene rating of 5, awarded in July 2025. A few reviewers have mentioned card payment problems, so it is worth carrying a little cash.

Best for: A well-reviewed chippy, with lunch deals as well as teatime suppers.

High Pit Fisheries

High Pit Fisheries is on High Pit Road, close to the Klondyke shops on Front Street. Its website trades under the name High Pit Fish and Grill, and it is a straightforward neighbourhood takeaway serving the estates around it.

It holds a food hygiene rating of 5, most recently confirmed in February 2026. Reviews are more mixed than for Brockwell, so it is worth checking recent ones before you order.

Best for: A handy neighbourhood chippy close to the Klondyke shops.

K and L Fisheries, Annitsford

South of the town, K and L Fisheries is on Front Street in Annitsford. The company behind it, K & L Fisheries Ltd, was incorporated in 2002 and is registered at the shop. Haddock and chips is the order reviewers mention most, and the menu also includes kebabs and pizza.

It holds the top food hygiene rating of 5, awarded in October 2025. Annitsford is in North Tyneside rather than Northumberland, but it has a Cramlington postal address and sits just across the boundary from the town.

Best for: Haddock and chips from a long-established village shop.

Frydays, Seghill

Frydays is on Main Street in Seghill, a short drive east of Cramlington. Reviewers describe thick, fresh fish, battered chips and generous portions, and one regular says they have used it for years.

It holds a food hygiene rating of 4, awarded in March 2026.

Best for: Worth the short drive to Seghill for a Friday supper.

Tips for visiting

  • Lunchtime: Brockwell Fish and Chips is known for its lunchtime specials. Check before you go, as some shops close between lunch and the evening session.
  • Mixed orders: K and L Fisheries also does kebabs and pizza, so it suits a household where not everyone wants fish.
  • Delivery: ask each shop directly whether it delivers to your area.
  • Food hygiene: Brockwell, High Pit and K and L all hold the top rating of 5, and Frydays holds a 4.
  • Payment: carry a little cash in case a card machine is down.

Check opening hours before you go, as they change through the year.
